Prorated Salary Calculator

Work out exactly how much you're owed for a partial month — starting mid-month, resigning early, or unpaid leave — using the actual Employment Act formula, not a rough guess.

RM
e.g. if you started on the 16th of a 30-day month, you worked 15 days

Days in October 2026: 31

What you're owed

Statutory amount (Employment Act formula)
RM 2,419.35

Monthly salary ÷ actual days in the month × days worked

How this compares to common shortcuts

If a fixed 26-day divisor were used
RM 2,884.62
If a fixed 30-day divisor were used
RM 2,500.00

Employers may use a fixed divisor like 26 or 30 instead, but only if it pays you the same or more than the statutory calendar-day formula — never less.

The formula behind this

Under Section 18A of the Employment Act 1955 (read together with Section 60I(2)), incomplete-month pay is calculated as: monthly salary ÷ the actual number of days in that calendar month × the number of days worked. The divisor is never a fixed number — it changes between 28, 29, 30 and 31 depending on the actual month.

Frequently asked questions

Is my employer allowed to use a fixed 30-day divisor instead?

Yes, but only if the result is equal to or better than the statutory calendar-day formula. A fixed divisor that pays you less than the statutory amount for that specific month isn't compliant, even if it's written into your contract.

Does this apply to a full month I worked completely?

No — a full calendar month worked in full is paid at your full monthly salary regardless of whether that month has 28, 30 or 31 days. Proration only applies when you're being paid for less than the whole period.
