Why a bonus deducts more than usual
There's no special 'bonus tax rate' in Malaysia — a bonus is taxed at the exact same progressive rates as your salary. It looks like more is deducted because LHDN's formula method withholds the entire extra annual tax the bonus causes in that single month, rather than spreading it across the year. EPF also applies to bonuses (both your and your employer's share), unlike SOCSO and EIS, which exclude bonuses entirely.
