How this was calculated

Every figure above is derived from these steps — nothing is a black box.

  1. 1We start from your monthly wage of RM 5,000.00.
  2. 2EPF (KWSP): RM 5,000.00 × your contribution rate = RM 550.00 deducted from you, plus RM 650.00 paid by your employer on top — this goes into your retirement savings, not to the government.
  3. 3SOCSO (PERKESO): based on your wage (capped at RM6,000), you pay RM 25.00 and your employer pays RM 87.50 for employment injury and invalidity protection.
  4. 4EIS (SIP): you pay RM 10.00 and your employer matches it with RM 10.00 — this funds unemployment benefits if you're ever retrenched.
  5. 5PCB (MTD): we annualise your income, subtract RM 13,350.00 in tax reliefs you qualify for, then apply the progressive tax table to the remaining RM 46,650.00 of chargeable income.
  6. 6That annual tax of RM 1,299.00 is spread evenly across 12 months, giving a monthly PCB of RM 108.25.
  7. 7Your take-home pay is your gross wage minus EPF (employee share), SOCSO (employee share), EIS (employee share) and PCB.

EPF figures come from KWSP's Third Schedule, SOCSO and EIS from PERKESO's contribution tables, and PCB from LHDN's tax brackets and relief schedule.
