Your income tax number is called the Tax Identification Number, or TIN (Nombor Pengenalan Cukai). LHDN uses it to identify you as a taxpayer, and you need it to file your income tax return.
What a TIN looks like
For individuals, the TIN starts with the prefix IG, followed by numbers, up to 14 characters in total. The prefix IG replaces the older OG and SG prefixes, and the numbers stay the same.
Do I automatically have a TIN?
LHDN registers TINs automatically for Malaysian citizens and permanent residents aged 18 and above, using data from the National Registration Department. Other people, such as those with no MyKad record, may need to apply.

Since 1 January 2024, individuals who need a TIN apply online through e-Daftar on the MyTax portal.
